New Squash Season Ahead
Thursday October 30, 2008
There's a new season about to start for high school squash players, culminating in the US High School Nationals, to be held in New Haven, CT on Feb. 6-8, 2009. And I have the pleasure of coaching the boys varsity team at the Potomac School in McLean, VA.
As you can imagine, preparations are underway for tryouts, practices, off-court physical conditioning, and interscholastic matches at home and away. Players, parents, and coaches alike are gearing up for the squash season ahead.
Amid all the logistics and planning, I'm beginning to ponder anew: "What's the best single thing to teach these high-school squash players?" Is it how to think during a hard match? Or, how to get better over time? Or even, why do people play racquet sports anyway?
Your suggestions are always welcome! What would you want to pass on to the next generation of squash players?
