You may have heard of the 'Serena Slam', in which Serena Williams won all four of the major tennis tournaments sequentially, though not in one year, but you may not have heard of the more recent 'Serena Smash'. Apparently Serena Williams won a very hard-fought victory over Jelena Jankovic this past weekend in the finals of the Sony Ericsson Open tennis tournament, and she took out some of her passing frustrations on her racquet. That was the smash!

At the close of the match, Jelena even remarked to Serena about the racquet obliteration that Serena had wrought, so it must have been memorable. Serena is reported to have said later on, "That racquet was getting on my nerves. He had to go".

So, Serena's racquets are male!

I can't quite imagine smashing one of my racquets in anger, but then again:

• I don't get them for free
• I'm not a world-class player, and
• I'm still entranced with my first racquet.
