Back to Basics for Best Results

Monday November 3, 2008
What a relief! Thanks to some helpful comments from a friend who did on-court drills with me for an hour the other day, I was reminded of two fundamentals that really help:

1) before each serve, envision exactly where you want the ball to go before you hit it. Then aim for that spot. That is probably the best single one of all the serving tips.It applies just as well to court tennis and racquetball, as it does to squash.
2) before you hit any groundstroke or volley, really watch the ball come all the way onto your racquet strings. Watch to make sure the ball hits your strings in the middle of the racquet face. This is one of the key tips for success in squash, and also in most other racquet sports.

By implementing just these two tips, I was once again playing much better, very quickly.
