If your sport involves hitting a moving object with a racquet, or if others are swinging a racquet anywhere near you, you should be wearing protective eyewear. Having a net between you and your opponent is no guarantee of safety. Your eyes can be permanently damaged by impact from a ball or, even worse, a racquet.
Squash, racquetball, racquets, and other one-room racquet sports are particularly dangerous in that you and your opponent compete in close proximity. The ball is generally not the main danger in these games; your opponent's racquet is the main danger. You can be hit by your opponent's racquet as they prepare to swing, or during their follow-through. They don't want to hit you, but they are trying, first and foremost, to hit a good shot, and they can lose track of exactly where you are. If you play a lot, you will inevitably be struck.
Skill and professionalism are not the solution; wearing protective eyewear is.
